Common questions
NSE and BSE trade shares from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm IST, Monday to Friday, and futures & options until 3:40 pm. A pre-open session runs from 9:00 am to 9:15 am, and a post-close session from 3:50 pm to 4:00 pm.
Futures & options on NSE and BSE trade until 3:40 pm (since 3 August 2026). From 7 December 2026 they will trade until 3:45 pm, except expiring index contracts, which stop at 3:30 pm on expiry day.
A short auction that sets the closing price of shares that also trade in F&O. These shares trade normally until 3:15 pm, then the auction runs until 3:35 pm. From 7 December 2026 it moves to 3:30 pm – 3:40 pm.
MCX opens at 9:00 am and trades metals and energy until 11:30 pm while the US is on summer time (daylight saving, roughly mid-March to early November), and until 11:55 pm the rest of the year. Most agricultural commodities trade until 5:00 pm; cotton, cotton oil and kapas trade until 9:00 pm.
Many MCX contracts follow international prices from US markets. When the US moves its clocks forward for summer, MCX closes earlier (11:30 pm); when the US clocks go back in November, MCX trades until 11:55 pm.
No. NSE, BSE and MCX are closed on weekends. The only exceptions are special sessions announced by the exchanges, such as Diwali Muhurat trading or a Union Budget day that falls on a weekend.
From 9:00 am to about 9:10 am you can place, change or cancel orders, but nothing trades (market orders are accepted only until 9:05 am, and order entry closes at a random moment in the last two minutes). The exchange then matches the orders to find the opening price, and normal trading starts at 9:15 am. In F&O, only futures have a pre-open.
Yes. Every time on this page is Indian Standard Time (IST).
