Setting up ProStocks - Sunlight Broking LLP
Step 1 — Request Star API access
ProStocks does not hand out API access from a self-service portal — you ask for it, and there is a test you have to pass before going live. Budget a little time for this broker.
- Email ProStocks at support@prostocks.com with “API” in the subject line and your ProStocks client code in the message. You can also call +91-22-62434343.
- You are given access to the UAT (test) environment, which runs 24×7. There is nothing to pay while you are testing — charges start only when you go live.
Step 2 — Pass the go-live test and collect your keys
⚠️ Before ProStocks enables live access, you must submit logs showing at least two order placements, two order modifications, two order cancellations and two trade confirmations — each on different securities. No other broker we support asks for this, so don't be caught out by it.
- Run those orders in the UAT environment and send the logs to ProStocks.
- Once approved, ProStocks issues your Star API live key and the live endpoint, along with the credentials below. Copy them somewhere safe:
- Vendor Code — issued by ProStocks with your access
- API Secret — issued alongside it; keep it private
Step 3 — Enable TOTP on your ProStocks account
The Star API login takes a second factor alongside your user ID and password. MyAlgoMate signs in for you, so it needs a TOTP secret key rather than a one-time code you read off your phone.
- Enable TOTP / two-factor authentication on your ProStocks account.
- When the QR code appears, save the secret key it contains — most authenticator apps show a “can't scan the code?” or manual-entry option that reveals it. This secret key is the TOTP key MyAlgoMate needs.
- Scan the QR code into your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) so you can still sign in yourself.
Step 4 — Register your static IP
Under the SEBI retail algo-trading rules in force since 1 April 2026, API order placement must originate from a registered static IP. Register your static IP with ProStocks for API trading.
- Which IP to use: if you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, use your ISP's static IP; if you run it on a cloud machine, use that cloud server's static IP.
No static IP or cloud machine yet? Our Cloud Server for Algo Trading is a cloud machine specialised for algo trading, and it comes with its own static IP you can register.
Step 5 — Enter the details in MyAlgoMate
- Open the broker login form in MyAlgoMate and enter your User ID, Password, Vendor Code, API Secret and TOTP key, then save.
What you need to collect
To connect ProStocks, the broker login form in MyAlgoMate needs five details:
- User ID — your ProStocks user id, the one you sign in with
- Password — your ProStocks account password
- Vendor Code — issued by ProStocks when they grant your API access
- API Secret — issued alongside the vendor code; keep it private
- TOTP key — the secret key you saved when enabling TOTP
One more thing is set on ProStocks' side rather than entered here: your registered static IP.
What the Star API costs
The Star API is a paid subscription. The trading API — placing and managing orders, including the websocket feed — is ₹1000 per month at the time of writing; please check ProStocks for the latest charges. Historical data is a separate ₹1000 per month on top. There is no extra brokerage for placing orders through the API; you pay your normal plan.
Do you need both? Only if your strategy uses candlestick data — that comes from the historical-data subscription. If your algo doesn't need candles, the trading API on its own is enough, and you can skip the second ₹1000.
You do not pay anything while you are building and testing. ProStocks gives you a 24×7 UAT environment, and charges begin only when you decide to go live.
Access is by request, not self-service
Most brokers let you generate API keys yourself from a dashboard. ProStocks does not. You email support@prostocks.com with “API” in the subject and your client code, and they set you up on the UAT environment. Before they switch you to live, you have to submit logs proving your integration works: at least two order placements, two modifications, two cancellations and two trade confirmations, each on different securities. It is worth starting this a few days before you actually want to trade.
Why TOTP is required
The Star API login takes a second factor alongside your user ID and password. Because MyAlgoMate signs in to your account for you, it cannot read a one-time code off your phone — so you enable TOTP once and give MyAlgoMate the secret key behind it. Keep the authenticator app on your phone as well, for your own logins.
No Redirect URL needed
If you have connected other brokers before, you may be looking for a Redirect URL or callback field. The Star API does not use one — it signs in directly with your credentials, vendor code and TOTP, so there is nothing of that kind to configure here.
Static IP — required for API trading
Under the SEBI retail algo-trading rules in force since 1 April 2026, API order placement must originate from a registered static IP, so you need to register one with ProStocks. Use your ISP's static IP if you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, or your cloud machine's static IP if you run it on a server.
If you don't have a static IP, our Cloud Server for Algo Trading is a cloud machine built for algo trading and includes a static IP of your own that you can register.
Keep your credentials private
Your API Secret, password and TOTP key are the keys to your own trading account — never share them with anyone. MyAlgoMate provides the automation technology; you set the rules and stay in control of your own trades.
ProStocks - Sunlight Broking LLP — questions
How much does the ProStocks Star API cost?
The trading API — placing and managing orders, including the websocket feed — is ₹1000 per month at the time of writing; please check ProStocks for the latest charges. Historical data is a separate ₹1000 per month on top. There is no extra brokerage for orders placed through the API. You pay nothing while testing: the UAT environment is available 24×7 and charges start only when you go live.
Do I need the historical-data subscription as well?
Only if your strategy uses candlestick data — that is what the historical-data subscription provides. If your algo doesn't need candles, the trading API on its own is enough and you can skip the extra ₹1000 per month subscription charge.
How do I get ProStocks API access?
By request, not from a dashboard. Email support@prostocks.com with “API” in the subject line and your ProStocks client code, or call +91-22-62434343. They set you up on the UAT test environment first.
What test do I have to pass before going live with ProStocks?
ProStocks asks you to submit logs showing at least two order placements, two order modifications, two order cancellations and two trade confirmations, each on different securities, run in the UAT environment. Once they approve those, they issue your Star API live key and the live endpoint. Start this a few days before you plan to trade.
What ProStocks details does MyAlgoMate need?
Five: your User ID, Password, Vendor Code, API Secret and TOTP key. ProStocks issues the vendor code and API secret when they grant your access. You enter all five in the broker login form in MyAlgoMate, and separately register a static IP on ProStocks' side.
Is there a free trial for the ProStocks API?
Effectively yes — you are not charged while you are building and testing. ProStocks provides a 24×7 UAT environment, and the monthly charges begin only when you decide to go live.
Do I need a static IP for ProStocks API trading?
Yes — under the SEBI retail algo-trading rules in force since 1 April 2026, API order placement must come from a registered static IP, so register one with ProStocks. Use your ISP's static IP if you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, or your cloud machine's static IP if you run it on a server. If you don't have one, our Cloud Server for Algo Trading includes a static IP.
