Connecting Kotak Neo

You create an application in the Neo Trade API dashboard, register TOTP on your Kotak Neo account, whitelist a static IP, and then enter your Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, Client ID, Password/MPIN and TOTP key into the broker login form in MyAlgoMate.

Setting up Kotak Neo
Step 1 — Create your application in the Neo Trade API dashboard
The Neo Trade API is free — Kotak charges no subscription for the Trade API, so there is nothing to buy before you start. You only need an active Kotak Neo trading account.
- Open the Kotak Neo app and go to More → Trade API. On the web you can reach the same place via Invest → Trade API → API Dashboard.
- Choose Create New Application. Two credentials are then shown in the dashboard — copy both:
- Consumer Key — identifies your application
- Consumer Secret — unique to your application; never share it
- Generate your API access token from the same dashboard. You can change the default validity to a longer period of your choice, so you don't have to generate it again often.
Step 2 — Register TOTP and save your TOTP key
Kotak creates your API session from the access token plus a TOTP code. MyAlgoMate signs in for you, so it needs the TOTP secret key itself rather than a 6-digit code you type in.
- From the same Trade API page, open TOTP registration (kotakneo.com/platform/kotak-neo-trade-api/totp-registration).
- Enter your registered mobile number and validate the OTP sent to you.
- When the QR code appears, save the secret key it contains — most authenticator apps show a “can't scan the code?” or manual-entry option that reveals it. This secret key is the TOTP key MyAlgoMate needs.
- Scan the QR code into your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, etc.), which then generates a fresh 6-digit code every 30 seconds.
Step 3 — Whitelist your static IP
Kotak Neo requires a registered static IP for API trading, in line with the SEBI retail algo-trading rules in force since 1 April 2026. Whitelisted IPs are managed from the same API Dashboard where you created your application.
- In the API Dashboard, open the whitelisted-IP section and register your static IP.
- Which IP to use: if you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, use your ISP's static IP; if you run it on a cloud machine, use that cloud server's static IP.
No static IP or cloud machine yet? Our Cloud Server for Algo Trading is a cloud machine specialised for algo trading, and it comes with its own static IP you can whitelist.
Step 4 — Enter the details in MyAlgoMate
- Open the broker login form in MyAlgoMate and enter your Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, Client ID, Password/MPIN and TOTP key, then save.
What you need to collect
To connect Kotak Neo, the broker login form in MyAlgoMate needs five details:
- Consumer Key — from the application you create in the Neo Trade API dashboard
- Consumer Secret — issued with it; unique to your application, so never share it
- Client ID — your Kotak Neo client id, the one you sign in with
- Password / MPIN — your Kotak Neo account password or MPIN
- TOTP key — the secret key you saved when registering TOTP
One more thing is set on Kotak's side rather than entered here: you must whitelist a static IP in the API Dashboard.
The Neo Trade API is free
Kotak does not charge a subscription for the Neo Trade API — it is free to use, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to renew. You only need an active Kotak Neo trading account. (Kotak's own brokerage charges for the trades you place are separate and depend on your plan.)
Why TOTP is required
Kotak builds your API session from your access token together with a TOTP code. Because MyAlgoMate signs in to your Kotak Neo account for you, it cannot type in a 6-digit code — so you register TOTP once and give MyAlgoMate the secret key behind it. Keep the authenticator app on your phone as well, so you can still sign in to Kotak Neo yourself.
No Redirect URL needed
If you have connected other brokers before, you may be looking for a Redirect URL or callback field. Kotak Neo's Trade API does not use one — the connection is made with your Consumer Key and Secret plus your login and TOTP, so there is nothing of that kind to configure here.
Static IP — required by Kotak Neo
Under the SEBI retail algo-trading rules in force since 1 April 2026, API trading requires a registered static IP. Kotak Neo lets you manage your whitelisted IPs from the API Dashboard, alongside your application and access token. Use your ISP's static IP if you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, or your cloud machine's static IP if you run it on a server.
If you don't have a static IP, our Cloud Server for Algo Trading is a cloud machine built for algo trading and includes a static IP of your own that you can whitelist.
Keep your credentials private
Your Consumer Secret, password/MPIN and TOTP key are the keys to your own trading account — never share them with anyone. MyAlgoMate provides the automation technology; you set the rules and stay in control of your own trades.
Kotak Neo — questions
Do I need to pay for the Kotak Neo Trade API?
No. Kotak's Neo Trade API is free of cost — there are no subscription charges for using it. You only need an active Kotak Neo trading account. Kotak's own brokerage charges for the trades you place are separate and depend on your plan.
What Kotak Neo details does MyAlgoMate need?
Five: your Consumer Key and Consumer Secret from the application you create in the Neo Trade API dashboard, your Client ID, your Password or MPIN, and your TOTP key. You enter all five in the broker login form in MyAlgoMate. Separately, you must whitelist a static IP in the API Dashboard on Kotak's side.
Where do I create my Kotak Neo API application?
In the Kotak Neo app, go to More → Trade API and choose Create New Application; on the web the same place is Invest → Trade API → API Dashboard. Your Consumer Key and Consumer Secret are shown there, and you generate your API access token and register TOTP from the same page.
Why do I need TOTP for Kotak Neo?
Kotak creates your API session from your access token together with a TOTP code. MyAlgoMate signs in for you and cannot type in a 6-digit code, so you register TOTP once and enter its secret key in MyAlgoMate. Keep the authenticator app on your phone as well, so you can still sign in to Kotak Neo yourself.
Does Kotak Neo need a Redirect URL?
No. Unlike some other brokers, Kotak Neo's Trade API does not use a Redirect URL or callback field — the connection uses your Consumer Key and Secret plus your login and TOTP. If you are looking for that field, you can safely ignore it for this broker.
Do I need a static IP for Kotak Neo API trading?
Yes — under the SEBI retail algo-trading rules in force since 1 April 2026, API trading requires a registered static IP. You manage your whitelisted IPs from the Kotak Neo API Dashboard. Use your ISP's static IP if you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, or your cloud machine's static IP if you run it on a server. If you don't have one, our Cloud Server for Algo Trading includes a static IP.
