// HOW WE CONNECT

Connecting Delta Exchange - Crypto

MyAlgoMate connects to Delta Exchange, a crypto derivatives exchange, through its official API. You create an API key with Trading permission and a whitelisted IP from your Delta account, then enter your API Key and API Secret into the broker login form in MyAlgoMate. Delta signs each request with your secret, so there is no TOTP or redirect URL to set up.

// SETUP

Setting up Delta Exchange - Crypto

Step 1 — Decide which IP you will trade from

Do this before you create the key. Delta will not let you create an API key with Trading permission unless you supply a whitelisted IP at the same time, so it helps to have the address ready.
  1. If you run MyAlgoMate on your own machine, use your ISP's static IP; if you run it on a cloud machine, use that cloud server's static IP.

No static IP or cloud machine yet? Our Cloud Server for Algo Trading is a cloud machine specialised for algo trading, and it comes with its own static IP you can whitelist.

Step 2 — Create your API key

Delta's API is free — both the trading and data APIs can be used at no cost, so there is nothing to subscribe to. You only need a Delta Exchange account.
  1. Go to Delta's API key page in your account and choose to create a new API key.
  2. Give the key Trading permission. This is what allows orders to be placed, cancelled and closed, and margin or leverage to be changed — a read-only key cannot trade.
  3. Enter the IP you settled on in Step 1 as a whitelisted IP. You can whitelist more than one, and Delta accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
  4. Delta generates your API Key and API Secret. Save the secret somewhere safe as soon as it appears — it is yours to keep secure, and you will need it to connect.

Step 3 — Enter the details in MyAlgoMate

  1. Open the broker login form in MyAlgoMate and enter your API Key and API Secret, then save.

What you need to collect

Delta Exchange needs the fewest details of any venue we support. The broker login form in MyAlgoMate asks for just two:

  • API Key — generated on Delta's API key page
  • API Secret — generated with it; save it as soon as it appears and keep it private

Two more things are set on Delta's side rather than entered here: the Trading permission on the key, and the whitelisted IP.

The IP has to be whitelisted when you create the key

This is Delta's own security rule, and it works differently from most brokers. Delta will not issue an API key with Trading permission unless you provide a whitelisted IP at the moment you create it, and requests made with that key only succeed from a machine whose IP you whitelisted. So decide where MyAlgoMate will run before you create the key. You can whitelist more than one address, and Delta accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 — if your connection could use either, whitelist both so a change of address doesn't quietly start rejecting your orders.

Give the key Trading permission

Delta keys are scoped. A key with only Read Data permission can fetch market data but cannot place an order, so if MyAlgoMate connects successfully yet no orders go through, check that the key was created with Trading permission. That permission covers placing and cancelling orders, closing positions, and changing margin and leverage.

The Delta API is free

Delta does not charge for API access — both the trading and data APIs can be used at no cost, so there is no subscription to buy and nothing to renew. You only need a Delta Exchange account. (Delta's own trading fees are separate.)

No TOTP or Redirect URL for this one

If you have connected stock brokers before, you will be used to enabling TOTP and registering a redirect URL. Delta needs neither. It authenticates each request with a signature calculated from your API secret, so there is no login journey to automate — the API Key and API Secret are the whole of it.

Keep your secret private

Your API Secret is what signs every request, so anyone holding it can trade your account — never share it with anyone. If you think it has been exposed, delete the key on Delta and create a new one. MyAlgoMate provides the automation technology; you set the rules and stay in control of your own trades.

// FAQ

Delta Exchange - Crypto — questions

Do I need to pay for the Delta Exchange API?

No. Delta's API is free — both the trading and data APIs can be used at no cost, so there is no subscription for API access. You only need a Delta Exchange account. Delta's own trading fees are separate.

What Delta Exchange details does MyAlgoMate need?

Just two: your API Key and API Secret from Delta's API key page. You enter both in the broker login form in MyAlgoMate. Separately, the key must have Trading permission and a whitelisted IP, both set on Delta's side when you create it.

Why does Delta ask for an IP when I create the API key?

It is Delta's security rule: a key with Trading permission can only be created if you supply a whitelisted IP, and requests with that key only succeed from a machine with that IP. Decide where MyAlgoMate will run before creating the key. You can whitelist more than one address, and Delta accepts IPv4 and IPv6.

MyAlgoMate connects to Delta but no orders are placed — why?

Check the permission on the key. Delta keys are scoped, and a key created with only Read Data permission can fetch market data but cannot place orders. Create a key with Trading permission, which covers placing and cancelling orders, closing positions and changing margin and leverage. Also confirm the IP MyAlgoMate runs from is whitelisted on that key.

Do I need TOTP or a Redirect URL for Delta Exchange?

No. Delta signs each request with a signature calculated from your API secret rather than putting you through a login journey, so there is no TOTP to enable and no redirect URL to register. Your API Key and API Secret are all that is needed.

I lost my Delta API Secret — what do I do?

Create a new API key. The secret is generated with the key and is yours to store securely, so if you no longer have it the simplest fix is to delete the old key on Delta, create a fresh one with Trading permission and your whitelisted IP, and update the new key and secret in MyAlgoMate.
